This DPA d:screet CORE 4061 Miniature Omnidirectional Microphone (Lo-Sensitivity) with Mini-Jack connector offers a very clean, detailed and natural sound quality. Designed with CORE technology (see below for details), this d:screet CORE 4061 lavalier option for Loud SPL gets a 14 dB increase in both THD and Dynamic range:

  • Total Harmonic Distortion: < 1% THD up to 137 dB SPL peak
  • Dynamic Range: Typ. 111 dB

Originally designed for use with wireless systems in theater, television and close-miked instrument applications, the d:screet 4061 lavalier is highly unobtrusive. Because of its small size, it exhibits an exceedingly accurate omnidirectional pattern and therefore does not need to be aimed directly at the sound source to achieve quality pickup.

It is up to the user to decide on the correct placement to achieve the desired timbre. The mic can handle 144 dB peak before clipping, allowing the microphone to be used even for snare drums, guitar/bass speaker cabinets or other high SPL sound sources.

The CORE 4061 Miniature Omnidirectional Microphone is available in four colors: Beige, Black, Brown, and White. Package also includes (1) DUA6001 Miniature Grid, Soft Boost and (1) DUA6002 Miniature Grid, High Boost. When fitted, each grid introduces a 3 dB (DUA6001) / 10 dB (DUA6002) soft boost around 8 - 20 kHz (DUA6001) / 12 kHz (DUA6002) for applications where the Miniature Microphones need to be placed on the chest of the performer. The metal grid is anodized stainless steel.

CORE is a powerful technology at the heart of DPA miniature microphones. DPA has minimized distortion and expanded dynamic range significantly. From a whisper to a scream, you will experience increased clarity and openness. CORE is available for select models of d:screet Miniature Microphones and d:fine Headset Microphones Series.

CORE Minimizes Distortion

When the output of the microphone no longer sounds like the input, this is called distortion. Although all systems and mics add some distortion, well-designed systems and mics exhibit less distortion. By increasing the dynamic range of the mics, CORE extends the point at which the distortion is audible. In addition, CORE lowers the general distortion heard at all levels—from soft to loud. That means a clearer more open sound across the entire microphone range.

CORE Expands Dynamic Range

CORE increases the dynamic range of d:screet Miniature Microphones up to 14 dB (at 1% THD) depending on the specific type of capsule.

The table above gives an overview of the boost in dynamic range at 1% THD that CORE gives each of the products. Complete specifications can be found on each products page.

This gives users more flexibility by expanding the range of sounds that can be captured. In most cases, sound engineers prefer a mic with a wide dynamic range because they can use one mic to capture a wider range of sounds and in more applications.

  • Increased dynamic range = Increased workable range
  • Increased dynamic range = Less vulnerable to overload

CORE Sounds Better

An increased dynamic range and less general distortion means the sounds you capture come through crisp and clear. From a whisper to a scream, CORE microphones exhibit increased clarity and increase openness in the sound across all SPLs—from low to high.

Who Should Choose CORE?

Anyone looking for the BEST achievable sound on the market should choose CORE as it provides consistency, clarity and amazing speech intelligibility in any application. Two applications where CORE stands out as a necessity are film recording and theater.

In the film recording industry, CORE can potentially save the sound crew a lot of time, effort and money. DPA microphones are known for their ability to withstand expressive acoustical sound pressure levels (SPL) without distortion and now CORE minimizes distortion even more. With such a large dynamic range, one microphone can be bodyworn on an actor that needs to whisper in one scene and scream in the next.

Similarly, theater applications often also need to capture wildly varying SPLs with one bodyworn microphone. In addition, when there are 30 or more mics on the stage, the clear and open sound of CORE will brighten the entire sound picture. Try putting a CORE mic on any musical instrument and you will hear it as never before. CORE omnidirectional microphones also provide water and moisture resistance through nano coating and hermetic sealing of the sensitive electronics.
