Shure Introduces Axient Digital Wireless System

High-Performance RF—Incorporating all of the capabilities that professional productions demand, Axient Digital is designed for maximum signal stability. It features true digital diversity with Quadversity™ receiver technology, significantly mitigating the potential for signal fades or interference that can cause dropouts. Quadversity mode allows users to place sets of diversity antennas in different zones, or double the number of antennas in a single zone, to improve RF signal-to-noise in challenging environments. High Density mode increases the maximum simultaneous system channel count from 17 to 47 per 6-MHz TV band (from 23 to 63 per 8-MHz TV band), while maintaining exceptional audio quality.

Audio Quality—Featuring pristine digital audio via Dante and AES3, Axient Digital has a 20Hz to 20 kHz range with a flat frequency response and accurate transient response. Axient Digital is compatible with the Shure Battery Rack Charger (SBRC), which supports up to eight rechargeable batteries in a single, compact rack space. Providing a seamless, tour-ready battery charging and storage solution, the SBRC features an easy-to-read front panel that displays critical battery parameters, including charge status, time-to-full, and battery health indicators. When connected to a network, Shure Wireless Workbench and ShurePlus Channels software provide remote monitoring of the SBRC to track battery status.

Lectrosonics Introduces the Duet Digital Wireless Monitor System with Dante™ Input

The new system consists of the M2T dual-stereo half-rack transmitter and M2R diversity belt pack receiver. The Duet covers the UHF frequencies of 470-608 MHz in a single range, uses digital modulation for transmission, and can accept analog or Dante digital inputs. The new system is designed and developed with professional touring, installation, theater, filmmaking and broadcast customers in mind.

The M2T half-rack transmitter houses two independent stereo transmitters allowing for up to four stereo or dual-mono transmissions in a single rack space. The audio inputs can be individually configured to be analog or Dante compatible. The analog input connectors are full size XLR/TRS combo types for balanced line level analog signals while the input preamp circuits use a special balanced amplifier with very high common mode rejection to minimize hum and noise. A Dante Ultimo™ interface via dual RJ45 connectors accepts Dante networked audio inputs and can cascade the digital stream to additional units via CAT6 cables. An additional RJ45 jack provides an Ethernet connection for programming and control via Wireless Designer™ software and a USB jack on the front panel allows for firmware updates. The transmitter features a full color, backlit LCD for high visibility in any environment, while the chassis is all-metal and can be racked singly or in pairs using included rack mount hardware.

The M2R bodypack receiver employs advanced antenna diversity switching during digital packet headers for seamless audio. The 24 bit digital audio stream guarantees high resolution sound quality with wide dynamic range, low noise floor, and rock-solid stereo image. The headphone jack is fed from a high-quality stereo amplifier with 250 mW available to drive headphones or earphones to sufficient levels for stage performance or other noisy environments. A high-resolution, color LCD allows for a wide range of menu options, including precise limiter settings, using detailed graphics. The M2R runs on two AA batteries for an operating time of over 4 hours with alkaline cells.

Both the M2R and M2T units have 2-way IR sync, so scan data from the receiver can be sent to the transmitter and thus onto the Ethernet network for use by Wireless Designer™ software for frequency planning and coordination purposes. Additionally, the system includes a FlexList™ mode, where a number of names and associated frequencies can be stored in the receiver. This way, a monitor engineer can quickly find and listen to any of the performers’ mixes on the stage.

Aaton Digital Unveils New Cantar Mini Digital Portable Sound Recorder/Mixer

Paris, France (January 24, 2017) – Aaton Digital will unveil the new Cantar Mini 16-track digital portable mixer-sound recorder at next month’s BSC Expo 2017 in London.

The Cantar Mini is based on the renowned Cantar X3, winner of many awards and now widely recognized by the sound community as the ultimate digital 24-track location sound recorder, with many delivered and in daily use worldwide.

The Cantar Mini is in no way a reduced performance or reduced quality product but retains the full sound quality, uses the same preamps and components and manufacturing quality, and the same design quality as the Cantar X3 but with 16 tracks instead of 24, a reduced number of inputs and outputs, resulting in a considerably smaller size and a more lightweight unit – just 2.8 Kg (6.17 lb) with 2 batteries on board – almost half the weight of the X3. Of course, most of the software comes across also from the well developed Cantar X3 software.

Like the X3, the Mini also has the indispensable tilting display, it uses the same batteries, and is compatible with the add-on mixer panel Cantarem 2.

At 7600 Euros, the Cantar Mini will be a more affordable option to the world’s sound recordists. Zoom’s F-Control Gives Location Sound Recordists More Flexibility to Mix and Record in the Field

Zoom-F-ControlHauppauge, NY (December 8, 2016) — Zoom North America today unveiled the new F-Control, a mixing control surface that works intuitively with Zoom’s F8 and F4 Multitrack Field Recorders. When paired with an F8 or F4, the F-Control creates a complete and professional audio rig, so location sound recordists can have total command of their recording experience.

The F-Control makes recording and mixing simple with nine faders (eight + Master) and hands-on input/output control for fader, trim/pan, and track arming. Adding to its ease of use are a dedicated time code button, 12-segment LED meters, and programmable buttons for monitoring channel and output levels.

When using the F-Control, recordings can be organized with Track Scene edit buttons. There’s also an option to connect an external USB keyboard to enter metadata for “Track Name”, “Scene Increment”, “Scene Name”, “Notes”, and “False Take.”

A second USB port allows for easy connection to an F8 or F4 via a USB cable. The F-Control also includes a 1/4″ headphone jack so you can connect headphones and monitor audio in the field.

A durable metal chassis makes the F-Control suitable for an array of production conditions. Additionally, the unit is sleek and lightweight enough to fit into a gear bag or backpack so you can take it on any shoot.

Lectrosonics Introduces the PDR Portable Digital Recorder

Rio Rancho, NM (November 7, 2016) — Lectrosonics announces the introduction of a new micro digital recorder, the PDR (Portable Digital Recorder) for professional use. For situations in which the distance is extreme or where using a wireless microphone is not practical, the PDR recorder can travel with your subject and capture professional quality audio, synchronized with timecode. The tiny size and rounded shape make the PDR unobtrusive and easy to place in garments and costumes, and easy to conceal when used as a “plant” microphone to capture environmental or location sound.

The PDR records in 24 bit, 48 kHz digital onto a Micro SD card (HC type) in the industry-standard .wav (Broadcast Wave File) format. The PDR can be jammed to external time code via the standard 5-pin Lemo connector. A headphone output jack allows for monitoring the signal input or listening to previously recorded files.

The input connector is the industry standard TA5M jack that accepts any mic or line level signal, and provides bias voltage to power a wide variety of electret lavaliere microphones. The input connection and wiring is compatible with microphones pre-wired for use with Lectrosonics professional wireless microphone transmitters with servo bias type inputs.

Setup and adjustment is made through an intuitive interface provided by the keypad and LCD. In keeping with typical Lectrosonics mechanical designs, the housing is machined from a solid aluminum billet then hard anodized for the ruggedness needed in field production. The PDR runs for over 6 hours on a single lithium AAA battery. Audio specifications: 20 – 20 kHz frequency response, 105 dB(A) signal to noise (in HD mono mode), <0.035% distortion. Time code is SMPTE 12M – 1999 compliant. The PDR is 2.3×2.1x.7 inches (60x54x17 mm), and weighs 2.5 oz (71 grams) with battery.

Sound Devices Introduces Wingman iOS App For The 6-Series Mixers/Recorders!

SEPTEMBER 7, 2016 – Sound Devices unveils Wingman, its newest wireless remote control option for the 6-Series mixer/recorder line. Wingman is an iOS-based application that, when paired with the new WM-Connect Bluetooth® Smart USB accessory, lets users start and stop audio recordings, enter and edit metadata, as well as arm, disarm, and rename tracks. It also gives users touch-screen access to manage sound report information, create sound reports on the mixer, and the ability to email those sound reports (.csv files) directly from an iPhone or iPad. An overview of the Wingman App can be found here.

“The Wingman app offers a production team very affordable convenience and workflow functionality on set or in the field,” says Matt Anderson, President, Sound Devices, LLC. “Wingman gives users a clear view of their metering and timecode display on a larger touchscreen. The interface is easy to use and puts control in the palm of your hand. For workflows requiring remote-control access, this is an economical and seamless option.”

inserting-wm-connectWhile Wingman will be available free from Apple’s App Store, the wireless integration does require the WM-Connect Bluetooth USB Dongle, which may be purchased at Location Sound now. It also requires a 6-Series firmware update to version 4.00 or later.

WM-Connect may be inserted directly into any 6-Series mixer, using one of two included USB A-to-B adapters. For cart-based workflows, the accessory may be inserted into the keyboard port of the Sound Devices CL-12 linear fader controller.

If multiple 6-Series mixers are on set and equipped with a WM-Connect, Wingman will display all available devices at start-up, and the user may switch connection from one mixer to another from within the app.

“Wingman can do so much to enhance a production workflow,” adds Anderson. “Giving a user better control of metadata in the user-friendly iOS interface will enable production teams to do more with less, more quickly than ever before.”
